Mine Headgear School Project Kit – Grade 8
R 250.00
A laser-cut wooden mine headgear kit for the Grade 8 mine headgear school project. Flat 3 mm MDF or plywood parts slot together without glue, so the week goes on building the mine shaft headgear and writing it up, not on cutting wood.
Read the full build guide — what a headgear does, the order the model goes together, why the back-stay is there, and what to write up as you build. It has the whole build on video.
What a mine shaft headgear is
Headgear is the tall frame that stands over a mine shaft. It holds the sheave wheel that the hoist rope runs over, and that rope raises and lowers the cage in the shaft. The mining headgear school project asks a learner to build that frame and explain why it stays standing under load — which makes it a frame-structure task, not a decorating task.
Grade 8 Technology — frame structures
Struts, ties, triangulation, bracing: the mine shaft headgear school project sits in the Grade 8 Technology work on frame structures, and a slot-together model shows all of it at once. The model is ours. The design brief, the drawings, the investigation and the write-up stay the learner's own work.
Materials
Every part is cut by laser from 3 mm MDF or plywood, so tabs and slots meet within a fraction of a millimetre and nothing needs sanding. Each part is labelled.
Test-fitted before it's packed
We build every kit once by hand before it is packed. If a part doesn't fit, that's on us, not on your learner.
Built for the CAPS Technology syllabus
